Osney Lock Hydro powerhouse through the wild meadow

The hydro will be open as part of Oxford Open Doors, Sunday 14 September, 14:00–17:00.

Do drop in to see the hydro and fish pass, our mosaic ‘human sundial’ and our insect-friendly garden. It is unlikely we will be generating by that date, given the low river levels this summer.

As part of your visit you can follow a self-guided tour around Osney Island, which explains the hydro’s role as part of Osney Supercharge. This was project to better understand how energy generators such as the hydro can collaborate with households and businesses connected to the local energy network to help accelerate the transition to net-zero. https://www.lowcarbonhub.org/interactivemaps/osney-island-grid-edge-tour/ The Vishuddha Yoga Centre on this map will also be open for Open Doors and you can visit an energy-saving home at 14 South Street.

Disabled access

Access to the hydro is via the towpath and is step-free. There is a slope onto the towpath from East Street and some uneven surfaces.
