Guided tours

Come and experience community-owned renewables

The hydro site is normally open to visitors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.

My school or group would like to visit. Can you arrange private tours?

We can provide guided tours for groups from schools, universities, low-carbon community initiatives and other organisations. Group size is limited to 15, but larger groups can sometimes be accommodated, depending on our volunteer availability. Please contact us to see if we can arrange a tour.

Although we do not charge for tours, we welcome donations from visiting groups to help us with the upkeep of the site.

Are tours suitable for children?

We welcome children on our tours, so long as they are under close supervision of an accompanying adult throughout the visit.

How do I get there?

Osney Island is just a few minutes walk from Oxford train station and bus stops on the Botley Road. If travelling by car, please use the Park and Ride and take the bus to the Osney Island stop. You can see our location on a map on our contact us page.

Where does the tour start?

Our tours usually start by the benches on the towpath at the end of East Street opposite The Punter pub.

Accessibility

The tour involves walking a few hundred metres along the towpath and over rough grass. Access to the main site is via the towpath and is step-free. If you have any hearing, visibility or mobility impairment, please contact the organisers in advance so we can understand how we can best facilitate your visit.

Facilities on site

Please note there are no toilets on site.
