A quick post to share the great news that the recent rains have done their job and the hydro is generating. With impeccable timing the screw started turning yesterday afternoon, just in time for the pre-AGM tours.
Generation is dependent on river flow at Osney, which in turn depends on rain fall in the Thames catchment areas upstream. During summer months, the combination of a lower water table and the impact of growing plants sucking up water, means less rain makes it through into the rivers. As we enter into Autumn, we would expect to see a higher proportion of rain running off and into the rivers.
You can keep an eye on the river levels and flow at our nearby gauging station online.
